They are only a couple of cookies

It's 3:00 pm, you're at work, nodding, falling asleep. You get up for a coffee break, which includes a couple of cookies. It's already a tradition you share with your co-workers. What you probably are not aware of is that this simple coffee break may be leading you along the path of developing some cardiac, diabetic or metabolic condition.

When you eat high glycemic foods, the sugar level rises making the pancreas generate more insulin. Insulin tells the body to store the fat instead of burning it. Without understanding why, you keep getting fat.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), by 2050, one-third of adults in the U.S. will contract diabetes. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) warns that deaths from diabetes will double over the next 20 years.

When I feel I need something to keep me awake in the afternoon, I like to drink a low glycemic value shake, which helps me keep a stable blood sugar level. As a result the insulin stays at an appropriate level and the body uses the fat instead of storing it, I feel energetic, without fatigue and I am not hungry.
